19 states, plus Guam and the District of Columbia, ban text messaging for all drivers. In 15 of those states, police can pull over drivers suspected of texting.

6 states (California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Oregon and Washington) ban all drivers from talking on handheld cell phones while driving.

Today, it looks like Florida will join these states, with 2 proposed bills currently being drawn up. The overview of these is that ANY handheld cell-phone activity is banned; as well as all cell phone use banned in school areas. This includes school bus drivers – so don’t get any ideas, Otto!

Florida residents will have to be careful, even using a headset for calling, because this bill prohibits even picking up your phone to dial quickly.
