Nokia’s answer to the iPhone 3G, the Nokia N97 is a nicely-speced phone, but suffers from an outdated Symbian operating system. Unlike the iPhone, The N97 is available unlocked. This phone is actually more powerful than any of its competitors are the Palm Pre, the iPhone 3G S, and the T-Mobile G1 (Android-based) but is hindered by the antiquated operating system. The other phones benefit from operating systems built more recently, while Symbian is less readable, and not so good looking.

The good points of the N97 are:

  • Very sturdy
  • Great call quality
  • Slide out keyboard
  • 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens
  • Good quality video recording at 30 fps.
  • Polished GPS
  • Web browser supports Flash (unlike Safari on the iPhone)
  • Familiar Nokia key layout

Overall, this is a modern phone with great features, but it is not put together as well as the iPhone. The touch screen is not as responsive, and the camera does not do such a great job with indoor shots.
