Well, Windows Phone 7 has suddenly arrived! What is it with surprise product announcements?  First Google Buzz, now this! Oh and I guess, the iPad counts, tool. Or am I just losing my touch!? 🙂

I was going to write a full review, but this guy has done a great roundup. Head over and read it.

But first, here’s a quick summary:

  • Snazzy, great looking user interface
  • Integrates with Xbox Live
  • Runs Internet Explorer
  • Full integration with any Microsoft Office file

In short, it’s based on the Zune OS, which by most accounts is pretty good. It is a brand new OS, nothing to do with Windows Mobile 6. Sounds really fun!

Which devices support Windows Phone 7?

Microsoft is NOT building their own devices, so no Zune Phones guys. They are however being more choosy with Windows Phone 7 enabled device manufacturers, than they were with Windows Mobile.

All devices must have:

  • a capacitive, multitouchable screen with at least four points of touch;
  • accelerometer;
  • 5-megapixel camera;
  • FM radio;
  • and be able to meet a series of benchmarks

Microsoft has announced that they’re working the following companies initially: LG, Qualcomm, Samsung, Garmin Asus, HTC, HP, Dell, Sony Ericsson, and Toshiba. AT&T’s will be the first US network to support Windows Phone 7.

Finally, here’s a great visual tour.

I’ll keep you posted as more Windows Phone 7 news comes to hand!
